Practical Supports Drilling Operators in Papua New Guinea

Practical Engineering has a proud history of operating within the drilling industry not only in Australia, but also in Papua New Guinea’s vast oil and gas fields. PNG poses its own unique problems when it comes to drilling, with terrain, weather and resource depths being three key influences to the success of operations.

Practical has been engaged by numerous operators, with the most recent being Western Drilling Ltd, a partly PNG-owned drilling contractor. Western Drilling operates a 250T helicopter portable drill rig, one of the key requirements to effectively unlock resources in this testing environment. We have provided a number of inspection, design and certification services for Western Drilling including site inspections to the well sites in PNG. Our expert engineers have been available at short notice to deploy into PNG making their way to site via light aircraft, river barge and helicopter in order to conduct detailed site inspections and associated works. This minimises rig downtime and assists Western Drilling with recommendations in upgrading the rig to increase capacity and productivity. Practical looks forward to continuing to work alongside Western Drilling in providing engineering support to their drilling operations.
