Nitrogen Generator Twin Skid Design and Construct

Practical Engineering was recently engaged by Air Liquide Australia to design and construct a pair of portable skids to house nitrogen gas generating equipment. The bespoke design of the skids allowed easy transportation to site though twist locks and lashing points integrated in the skids’ structure while also conforming to transportation guidelines to not require a pilot vehicle.

Following initial concept meetings with Air Liquide, the design of the larger 16.5 metre compressor skid with a gross mass of approximately 28 t, incorporated removable steps and roof to allow easy maintenance and equipment replacement if required. The design of the removable roof also included lifting points accessible from the ground to eliminate the working at height requirement for rigging the roof for removal. Upon completion of the fabrication and surface protection of the skids, both were delivered to Air Liquide’s Wacol compound for test fitting and commissioning.

Both skids also incorporated transport restraints for the test fitted equipment, allowing the already tested and assembled equipment to remain on the skid during transport to minimise assembly and commissioning time at the final installation location.
