The Index EMS business structure allows their clients to benefit from lower labour and material rates in China by producing high-level material handling equipment via their international fabrication partners. Their engineering is centrally managed from the USA and for this project Index EMS partnered with Practical Engineering – to gain Australian compliance for their products prior to site assembly works.
For the Index EMS Cudeco Plant at Cloncurry QLD; Practical Engineering performed a full structural verification and compliance review to Australian Standards (AS1170:2007 Structural Design Actions)of a coal material handling plant including conveyor runs, hoppers, silos, access systems and overhead gantry cranes.
The scope of works included some re-design works in order to meet Australian Standards due to respective wind loads based on the site’s location in central Queensland. Re-designed structures included conveyor supporting A Frames and specification of a revised bolting arrangement for access systems to the hoppers and vibrating screens.
